As a naturally introspective and curious person with a wilfully strong connection to my heart right from the beginning, I was never destined for a ‘normal’ life. I found myself embarking upon a very deep journey of self-discovery and awakening just over a decade ago (2007-ish) in my mid-20s. This journey was (and still is) – above all else – a journey into profound self-acceptance, empowerment and purpose. The early period of this exploration coincided with a six-year relationship with the eccentric musical genius that is Eddie Chilvers, with whom I received an utterly unique and passion-infused musical ‘education’ spanning Radiohead to Wagner. We also immersed ourselves in the veil-crossing worlds of shamanism and plant medicines, and I found myself able to reconnect with the power of my voice and my latent musicality that had been touched on in my teens but never fully explored or expressed. In time I found myself training, healing and holding space with my music in these womb-like ceremonial spaces, and my first album, ‘Lullabies for Grown-Ups’, was loved and prayed into existence by that community in 2015. My second album, Creation, followed in 2018. Though it may all sound very lovely, traversing one’s shadows is messy work, and I have seen myself rising from the ashes of annihilation at least twice in these past years. Each time I have risen stronger and clearer and closer to Spirit and to my sense of purpose. It is this courage to face the shadows and the unknown that I believe gives my music its unique depth and power, and the voice that calls me onward wishes to continue sharing this medicine with those standing at the great thresholds of life; the births, the deaths, the marriages and all the initiations and leaps into the unknown that we must face in order to grow. My prayer for us all is not to somehow defeat the shadow, but to recognise it for its fundamental part of the great web of life and the life-restoring gifts that it holds. It is therefore with absolute faith, a faith born out of direct experience, that I can say journeys of the heart will never be easy, but will always be worth it.
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES
I am a singer-songwriter using voice and guitar to bring music that brings people into very close communion with their own hearts – even the little forgotten nooks. I am fairly versatile, and can move from deep, womb-like healing trance-states to joyful celebrations and shared incantations. I am known for poetic lyricism rich in symbol and story-telling, tender melodies of heart-wrenching beauty, playful and irresistible rhythms, and unexpected melodic twists and turns. I can play solo and especially love playing round a fire or in smaller intimate spaces, and alternatively I can bring a small band for larger and livelier performances.
